196+ forum: The Falkensteiner Hotel Montafon, Austria, is the winner of the “Hotel Property Award 2023”
Munich, 24 August 2023 - This year, 33 hotels from seven countries have applied for the European "Hotel Property Award", which will be presented at the 196+ forum conference in Munich on Friday, October 6.
19 applicants come from Germany, the other hotels from Austria (6), Spain (3), Switzerland (2), France (1), Georgia (1) and Italy (1).
Andreas Martin, chairman of the jury: "Between new buildings and conversions of existing properties as well as repositioning of hotel properties that are no longer up to date, a balance has been established in this year's field of applicants. Alternative financing concepts are being implemented, hotels are being tailored even more consistently to the respective target group, and the degree of digitalization is advancing, so that the differences between the classic structure of a full service hotel and new, currently developing forms of operationns are becoming increasingly radical and bold. The interdisciplinary jury of experts once again has the challenging task of selecting 10 nominees from a very heterogeneous field of applicants with very different concepts in city and leisure destinations.“
This year's competition was open to hotels newly built and opened in Europe between January 2022 and June 2023, or refurbished and repositioned after complete closure. At the jury meeting in early September, up to ten nominees will be selected from all applications and presented during the 20th anniversary celebrations of the 196+ forum in Munich.
The evaluation of the submitted applications is based on the interplay of the following criteria, regardless of the hotel's categorization: architecture and design, integration into the project environment, sustainability and technical innovation, originality of the concept, and economic viability.
